Taylor jailed for benefits fraud

by isleofman.com 26th May 2006
A man who made false statements in order to receive social security benefits has been jailed for 60 days by the High Bailiff.

Stewart Taylor of Castle Drive, Douglas, admitted six offences committed between January and October of last year. He failed to inform the Department of Health and Social Security that he was working, and that his circumstances had changed.

As a result the court was told, Taylor was overpaid the sum of ?1,960.

His advocate said the defendant was under significant financial pressure at the time. He accepted that it was not an excuse, but it was an explanation.
