There are no plans to bring in European-style rooms for drug users to inject safely, says the coordinator of the Island’s drug and alcohol strategy.
Margaret O’Reilly says so-called “shooting galleries” aren’t being considered as a solution to the Island’s intravenous drugs problems.
She says the policy is a radical one but it’s not needed here because of the small number of regular users who inject hard drugs.
Some countries have adopted the approach, which aims to cut the risk of overdose and keep users away from public areas, but Margaret says it’s not a widespread practice.
