Call for more party politics in Island

by isleofman.com 29th May 2006
A former clerk to Tynwald has called for more, not less, party politics in the Isle of Man.

Professor St John Bates says although there are many undesirable aspects to such a political system – including dogma and bickering – there can be advantages.

Speaking on Manx Radio’s Sunday Opinion programme, he told Roger Watterson it’s a shame the best aspects of party politics aren’t adopted.

He says one thing the Island would gain is the ability to judge politicians on their manifestos.
