America will try again to outlaw internet betting after a new bill was voted in by the House Judiciary Committee.
The body passed the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act by a vote of 25-11 on Thursday, marking the second time in four years that the bill will be put through the process.
The previous attempt to pass similar legislation collapsed under the weight of exemptions added by different groups supporting the bill.
The Internet has created jurisdictional problems for both U.S. lawmakers and law enforcement. It has placed online gambling in a legal no man’s land.
Current federal law does not clearly address online gambling. The Federal Wire Act of 1961 has been interpreted by the Department of Justice to outlaw online gambling. But a number of courts have ruled against it.
