No plans for dormant funds

Treasury Minister, Alan Bell, says there are still no plans for the Isle of Man government to raise money from dormant bank accounts.

In the House of Keys today, Onchan MHK Peter Karran asked whether any progress had been made on the issue since is was last raised in January.

Mr Karran also suggested the government should look to the Republic of Ireland as an example, pointing out a scheme using dormant funds was already in place there.

Mr Bell (pictured) said it was a complex issue that would only secure one-off payments, not a continuous source of cash, but he was monitoring what was happening in the United Kingdom:
