Kite surfer rescued

The Isle of Man Coastguard has issued a safety warning after a kite surfer was rescued from Castletown bay yesterday.

Port Erin Coastguard received reports the 18 year old was in trouble, after his kite was torn and he was being carried offshore by the strong northerly wind.

An officer wearing full water rescue gear swam around 100 metres out to the man, who isn't a strong swimmer, and they were both hauled back to shore on a safety line.

Duty Officer Michael McDonald says people who take part in water sports should be very careful:
