Newcomers shine in final practice session for solos

by isleofman.com 2nd June 2006
Solo riders fine tuned their machines during this evening's final practice session, ahead of the first race of TT 2006 tomorrow.

None of the top names improved on previous best times, but some of the newcomers made their mark.

Jeremy Toye is now the fastest newcomer, having reached 118.22 miles an hour.

He seemed pretty surprised (audio file attached):

Toye's team boss Martin Bullock said his progress was tribute to the amount of preperation he had done for the event, and he was very proud to have such a quality rider on board.

It was a frustrating evening for Cameron Donald who was forced to stop because of a flat tyre on his Superstock.

However, a "Good Samaritan" helped him get back to the Grandstand in time to get out again (audio file attached):

Ian Hutchinson produced his fastest lap of the week on his Superbike, going round at 124.66 miles an hour.

On the Superstock machine he did 122.116.

John McGuiness was also out on the Superstock and was well short of the record at 124.15 miles an hour.

There were good speeds from Martin Finnegan who took his Superbike out for two laps, the first at 123.030 miles an hour and the second slightly faster at 123.45, his fastest of the week (audio file attached):

Some of the local riders had problems around the course, with Paul Hunt, Barry Wood and John Barton all having to stop at various locations.
