Right to work

The United Kingdom Government's stance on working hours is being backed up by the Island's business community.

The U.K. wants to maintain people's right to work more than 48 hours a week.

The British Chamber of Commerce believes the limit would send out the wrong message globally.

The E.U. directive does not apply here, but the Department of Trade and Industry's forthcoming Employment Bill does allow for a limit to be introduced.

The Manx Chamber's Chief Executive, Barbara O'Hanlon, also believes it would be 'bad for business':
