Island insurer in miners battle

by isleofman.com 5th June 2006
An Isle of Man Insurance Company has been caught up in a legal row between miners in the UK.

Last week a High Court judge threw out a case by the Action Group for Miners against the Union of Democratic Mineworkers, claims handlers and solicitors.

The row centres around charges made by a claims handler and a number of solicitors out of personal injury compensation payments.

The solicitors representing the AGM said the miners were not liable to pay the ?600,000 court costs from the failed case because they had an insurance policy.

But a letter from Isle of Man based Templeton Insurance says the policy is void because the AGM hasn’t paid premiums.
