Keep your distance!

We're being ordered to 'keep your distance', but it's not another road safety message.

It's a campaign by the Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Conservation Division, to help protect marine animals.

Disturbing any wildlife disrupts their breeding and rearing their young. It can also stop the animals feeding and generally reduce their chances of thriving.

Codes of Conduct are available to give guidance to vessel operators, and the animals are protected under the Wildlife Act 1990.

Marine Conservation Officer Fiona Gell says it's not just basking sharks that are affected:
