Minimum wage increases

by isleofman.com 8th June 2006
The Department of Trade and Industry says more than 800 Isle of Man workers will benefit from proposed changes to the minimum wage.

The independent committee which oversees the levels will bring in higher wages for the lowest-paid from October this year.

The new levels are: ?4.50 an hour for 16 year olds, up 7.1%.

It’s ?5.05 an hour for 17 olds, an increase of 3.1%.

But adult workers will only see a rise of 2.9%, to ?5.40 an hour.

A press release from the Department of Trade and Industry says the minimum wages has risen 32% since coming in at the start of 2002.

In that time, inflation has risen by just 18%, and the DTI says this proves real earnings have risen.
