Unemployment dips as building takes off.

by isleofman.com 19th June 2006
An upturn in the construction industry is being credited for a fall in the unemployment numbers last months. There are now officially 545 unemployed and that equates to 1.4% of the economically active population. It also means the number has fallen for three successive months. Traditionally numbers did fall at this time of year but that was when the Island had a booming tourism industry. It’s the first year on year fall since January 2002. The turnover was quite high, with 142 signing on and 160 signing off. Twenty-eight construction workers left the register.
