Drink driver escapes jail

by isleofman.com 17th June 2006
A 35 year-old woman who drove whilst more than three times over the legal limit has escaped immediate custody.

Susan Connor, of Snaefell Road, Douglas, admitted two offences of drink driving and appeared for sentence before the High Bailiff.

Connor was arrested in Snaefell Road on April 17 when her alcohol reading was 307 milligrammes. The legal limit is 80mg.

On April 21, she was arrested again on Glencrutchery Road when her reading was 200 mg

Her advocate said reports before the court showed there were very serious health issues as well as an alcohol problem.

Mr Moyle said the readings were extremely high. He accepted that life had not been easy for her. It was the contents of the reports which led him to impose a six month suspended sentence coupled with a two year supervision order.

Connor was also banned from driving for seven years.
