The filling station with the personal touch closes its pumps for the last time.

by isleofman.com 19th June 2006
The Fairy Cottage Filling Station, on the road up out of Laxey towards Douglas , has closed for the last time.
Despite efforts by, amongst others, the local MHK Steve Rodan, Ruby MIdghall, the owner and operator for forty years, has been forced to shut up shop after her fuel supplier decided it was uneconomical to supply just one outlet.

Attempts to find another supplier have failed.
Ruby was ready, sunshine or rain, to come out and fill customers cars with petrol. She was possibly the last remaining places on the Island where that still happened. She decided not to continue as a small store once the fuel service had finished.
