Big Four to Battle for Parish Walk Honours

by isleofman.com 20th June 2006
The strongest and biggest field ever assembled will challenge for honours at this weekend's Parish Walk.

The second, third and fourth fastest finishers of all time have entered together for the first time.

Defending Champion Robbie Callister has come close over the last two years to beating Derek Harrison's legendary 1979 standard of 15 hours, 20 minutes and 51 seconds. Robbie also won the event in 2001 and 2002.

Peter Kaneen recorded the third best time in 2003 and won in 2000. Both victories were by a margin of over 30 minutes.

The fourth man of the all-time list is reigning British National 100 miles Race Walking Champion Sean Hands. He has four finishes under his belt, but has yet to taste victory in the Parish.

Completing the "Parish Walk Four" is six-time Commonwealth Games competitor Steve Partington. Steve holds just about every record on the books up to 50k. Can he add the 85 miler to his fantastic list of achievements?

A record entry of 1,582 will begin the walk around the Island's 17 Parishes from the National Sports Centre at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning.
