Superannuation investigation

by isleofman.com 22nd June 2006
An investigation is underway into whether civil servants who have been ill have had too much money taken from them under a superannuation scheme.

Chairman of the Civil Service Commission John Houghton faced questions on the issue this week in Tynwald.

Edward Oldham reports:

Rushen MHK Quintin Gill quizzed Mr Houghton on the issue in a question for written answer.

He asked how many civil servants were involved and how much money had been deducted.

Mr Houghton said a government employee who falls ill is given full pay, and the amount of incapacity benefit they could have claimed is passed on to the payroll so tax adjustments can be made.

He added there have been mistakes, but said investigations are underway to sort out discrepancies.
