A Douglas man's has been jailed for two years today (Monday) for causing the death of a teenage girl by dangerous driving.

Nineteen year-old Leigh Robinson admitted the charge against him.

Student, Aalish Patterson was a passenger in Robinson's car when it crashed at Alpine Corner near Ballaugh last May.

The 17 year old had been out celebrating her birthday with friends when she met up with the defendant and accepted a lift in his car along with five other youngsters.

The court heard how Robinson had only passed his test two weeks before and was in pursuit of another vehicle shortly before the crash - the speed was estimated at between 60 and 65 miles an hour.

Robinson was also banned from driving for five years.
