Braidwood survives 'no confidence' vote

by isleofman.com 26th June 2006
East Douglas MHK Phil Braidwood has survived a 'no confidence' vote in the House of Keys by 14 votes to 9.

The move was made by Michael MHK David Cannan following the release by Mr Braidwood of a document which was confidential to the Council of Ministers.

A letter written by north Douglas member John Houghton was delivered to the Chief Minister together with a brown envelope containing a statement made by Detective Inspector Rob Kinrade in response to a police investigation.

In the belief that undercover police officers might find their lives threatened, Mr Braidwood forwarded the Houghton letter to the Cheshire inquiry.

Our Senior Political Correspondent David Callister says none of the parties involved has gained from the affair:

A further ammendment by Mr Cannan calling for a censure of the Chief Secretary Mary Williams was defeated by 16 votes to 7.
