Historic figurehead preserved

by isleofman.com 27th June 2006
A piece of maritime history which has been left to the mercy of the elements is being preserved for the Manx people, with a safe new home indoors.

A historic figurehead from a ship, which was washed ashore in Bride in 1895 has become familiar with visitors to the Wildlife Park - where it was on view inside the main gate.

But frequent batterings by the Manx weather threatened its survival.

So the female figurehead was removed for conservation and is now back on display at the Nautical Museum in Castletown along with other items showing the Isle of Man's links with the sea.
