Dru and Derek honoured for displays of courage

It wasn't just the winner, record breakers and finishers who were honoured at Tuesday evening's Parish Walk Presentation evening.Sean Hands did receive the main trophy and all 163 finishers of the 85 mile slog around the Island's 17 parishes were given an award. This year's winner of the special Stephen Oake Trophy for the most meritorious performance was Dru Hamm. She was born with Cerebral Palsy and it was thought she would never walk again. However, she made four and a half mile distance to Marown in 4 hours 20 minutes, raising over ?5,000 for charity:-There was also a special award for now former record holder Derek Harrison. Derek completed the full distance at the age of 71 and just five years after suffering a serious stroke.
