Music and fireworks today

As well as the official ceremony, there is a number of other events being held today as part of the Manx National Week celebrations.

Ramsey’s Shoprite store will play host to a supermarket symphony.

Staff and children will join musicians from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra between 10:30 and 12:30pm.

There’ll also be music at Noble’s Hospital, Ramsey Railway Station and the Strand Shopping Centre from 3:30pm before jazz at the Centenary Centre in Peel at 8 o’clock this evening.

Project manager for the orchestra, Martin Maris says it’s part of a busy programme over the next few days: (first audio clip)

Today’s festivities will conclude at 10:45pm at St John’s with a fireworks display.

And earlier than scheduled, the annual Beat the Retreat will take place, as Tynwald Enhancement Committee co-ordinator, Laurence Skelly, explains: (second audio clip)
