Refurbished "wedding cake" opened

The opening of the refurbished "wedding cake" building in Douglas has been described as the beginning of a new era for Tynwald, by Speaker of the House of Keys, Tony Brown.

The legislative offices have been enhanced at a cost of ?11million in a scheme which includes an expanded Tynwald library, accommodation for staff and meeting rooms for select committees.

This afternoon (Wednesday) a commemorative plaque was unveiled jointly by President of Tynwald, Noel Cringle, and the Speaker.

Mr Brown (pictured) said that, at last, after 123 years, the oldest continuous parliament in the world had a permanent home:
