Superb Tynwald day

by isleofman.com 5th July 2006
Politicians and the Manx public are saluting a superb Tynwald National Day.

Large crowds gathered to watch the ages-old pageant in St John's where Tynwald held its annual outdoor ceremony.

The Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul Haddacks oversaw a virtually faultless procession and service at Tynwald Hill.

The set pieces - petitioning at the Lych Gate, the promulgation of laws in English and Manx, the RAF flypast - all went without a hitch.

The weather smiled on the occassion and there's been plenty to keep visitors entertained in the fairfield this afternoon.

A fireworks display will bring festivities to a close this evening.
