A Manx flag was the surprise birthday gift for the Chairman of the Caledonian Group of companies, Bill Walker OBE, on a two-day visit to the Isle of Man operation in Douglas.
Mr Walker has always shown a keen interest in the Island’s history and culture and it was felt the gift of a Manx flag would be appropriate. On his last visit he was driven around the TT Course and saw some other well known landmarks including Peel Castle with which he was particularly impressed.’
The Caledonian Group is based in the Cayman Islands where Mr.Walker is the founding and consulting partner of law firm Stuarts. He was also the founder of W.S.Walker & Company (now Walkers) and has been involved in the offshore industry in the Cayman Islands since its inception.
Caledonian, which has two companies here, employs a staff of 22 at its Athol Street offices. The Group has been based in the Island since the establishment of Caledonian Trust (IoM) Limited in 1996, while Caledonian Fund Services (Europe) was formed last year. This specialises in enhanced fund administration services, and associated areas, for the European market.
Mr.Walker is past President of the Cayman Islands Law Society, the Chamber of Commerce and the Cayman branch of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners. He is Chairman of the Cayman Government Secretariat, which considers OECD and EU matters, as well as being a member of the Financial Secretary’s Advisory Committee, the International Bar Association, the International Tax Planning Association and an International Associate member of the American Bar Association. In addition, he has written many articles on the Cayman Islands and its banking, corporate and trust structures.
