Stuart Kneale, prosecuting, said the defendant along with Mr Black and others had been drinking huge amounts of alcohol. Mr Black left the flat with another person at 11pm on January 6th but returned later to find his possessions thrown out on to the road.
He was extremely angry and returned to the flat where he attacked the person who was responsible.
Kerr went to pull Black off the other man, Nicholas Glover, who had thrown the clothes out, and he put his hands around Black's neck almost strangling him.
He then went to the kitchen and got a knife which he used to stab Black in the thigh.
Black sustained a deep cut, bruising and grazing. His advocate said that Kerr lacked maturity and was unable to cope with alcohol. He was also impulsive. His actions were stupid, but the pair had since made up.
Deemster Doyle issued a warning that anyone who carried knives could expect custody.
He also said that intoxication played no part in mitigation.
