Petitions for redress of grievance

by isleofman.com 14th July 2006
Thirty of the petitions for the redress of grievance presented on Tynwald Day have been declared 'in order' in a report released by the Tynwald Standing Orders Committee.

However, they point out that 18 of the petitions are identical in every respect and the committee, chaired by speaker Tony Brown, feels it is unnecessary for so many to be presented in the same manner.

Only one of the petitions submitted was found to be out of order, this being a matter currently before the High Court.

The subject matter of the petitions ranges from the Isle of Man pension supplement and legal aid to medical negligence and the petitioning system itself .

The 18 identical petitions are seeking an investigation into a planning issue at Derbyhaven.
