by isleofman.com 13th July 2006
The climax of the Southern 100 meeting saw Australian Cameron Donald become the first newcomer to win the Solo Championship Race for 30 years.

He was pushed all the way by Guy Martin, but just managed to take the chequered flag at the end of nine laps of exciting racing.

A breathless Cameron was jubilant at his win: (auido clip)

Ian Lougher, who had three wins at the meeting, finished third.

The last newcomer to achieve Donald's feat was the late Joey Dunlop in 1976.

Tim Poole from Nantwich came off his machine at Cross Four Ways, but is not thought to be badly hurt.

Nick Crowe and Darren Hope won the last race of the meeting, the Sidecar Championship.

Roy Hanks and Dave Wells were second, with Brian Kelly and Dicky Gale third.
