The trial of the wife of former chief minister Richard Corkill continues at Douglas courthouse today.
Fifty-two year old Julie Corkill denies four charges of false accounting and two of obtaining money by deception form the Department of Tourism and Leisure.
Yesterday, the case was delayed by three and a half hours while a joiner collected a diary detailing his work for the Corkills at their Ballacain home in Little Mill Road, Onchan.
Jason Roberts reports (audio file attached):
Paul Gavin worked on the holiday cottages which were later the subject of a grant from the DTL.
He described the work he had done, but had to return home to collect the diary to provide detailed information in his evidence.
After the book had been copied and distributed he told how, as well as the work on the cottages, he had built a treehouse for Mrs Corkill’s daughter.
The case was adjourned to allow the defence time to peruse the diary and advocate Dawn Jones will cross-examine him when the case resumes later this morning.
