Queen's Pier - petition against DoLGE?

The door is firmly open to a petition of doleance being served against the Department of Local Government.

That is according to Leonard Singer MLC after a renewed call to restore the Queen’s Pier failed in Tynwald last night (Thursday).

Mr Singer had asked for the Victorian structure to be brought up to the standard applicable to that of a listed building in private ownership.

However, while his motion did not receive sufficient support, an amendment from the Local Government Minister, John Rimington, was defeated in the Legislative Council.

Mr Rimington had called for any action to be deferred until next February when the Council of Ministers is due to report back on a select committee’s recommendations on the pier’s future.
