The third day of the trial of Julie Corkill, wife of former chief minister Richard Corkill, heard a contractor deny he faked invoices.
Mrs Corkill denies four charges of false accounting and two charges of obtaining money by deception relating to work on holiday cottages at her home in Onchan.
On Friday High Bailiff Michael Moyle was told four invoices from joiner Paul Gavin had been rewritten on headed notepaper.
Defence advocate Dawn Jones asked whether this had been done deliberately as part of a conspiracy with another contractor.
Jason Roberts reports (text of attached audio file):
Mr Gavin said he had written new invoices on four occasions because Colin Moore of main contractor GC Construction, wasn’t happy with them.
They weren’t detailed enough, and hadn’t been submitted on headed paper.
When repeatedly asked, Mr Gavin denied he had concocted them for Mr Moore so he could use them in a civil dispute with the Corkills.
The trial has adjourned for the weekend, but resumes on Monday morning.
