Firemen forced their way into a flat in Peel, after a neighbour told them the property was ablaze, and people might be inside.
Officers wearing breathing apparatus had to deal with heavy smoke logging as they searched the premises.
There was nobody inside, but the second floor bathroom, where the fire started, was severely damaged.
The Fire and Rescue Service is warning people to make sure doors, and particularly fire doors, are correctly closed when they go out, to help prevent the spread of fire, and smoke damage.
The fire was in Douglas Street, Peel yesterday morning.
