Over 150 delegates attended the Trust Litigation Conference, co hosted by Dickinson Cruickshank and prestigious barristers chambers Serle Court.
The one day event was held at Mount Murray.
The morning session included presentations from Mr Justice Lightman, covering developments over the last decade since his landmark decision on pre-emptive costs orders, and Frank Hinks QC discussing sham trusts. Lord Neill of Bladen went on to discuss the development of the law of dishonest assistance with contributions from John Rimmer and Andrew Moran.
The afternoon session saw an innovative presentation, with Deemster Kerruish presiding over a demonstration of a court room scenario involving advocates Gillian Whittle and Kathryn Clough.
The audience was able to see a practical illustration of how the Hastings-Bass principle could be applied with an example judgement passed. James Corbett QC and Victor Joffe QC then provided an overview of recent developments of the principle, including an analysis of case law which provided the relevant context for the presentation.
