Stuart affray sentence adjourned

by isleofman.com 20th July 2006
Sentence on a Peel man has been adjourned by magistrates.

23 year old Ralph Stuart of Michael Street admitted an offence of affray.

Rosemary Burnett, prosecuting, said the defendant punched the licensee of the Royal Hotel in Peel on June 6th after an argument earlier in the evening.

Howard Caine reports:

Mrs Burnett said the defendant was employed at the time as a barman, but was off-duty when the incident occurred. Police attended and found the licensee Mr Mitchell in a distressed state.

Stuart was located in Bridge Street, Peel. He claimed that the licensee started to "wind him up" and he admitted that he did punch him once in the face, causing bruising and swelling.

His advocate said the facts were not accepted, and there might be cause for a Newton hearing.

Stuart was remanded in custody until next week, when a decision will be made.
