Tower set for make-over

by isleofman.com 20th July 2006
Restoration work on the Tower of Refuge will end, its hoped, with the Manx flag flying above the ancient structure.

After accepting ownership, the Department of Transport is now carrying out immediate repairs to safeguard the building, before embarking on a bigger structural programme next year. That would involve putting scaffolding round it.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution flag has flown over the haven for shipwrecked mariners for years. But there are plans to give it a three legged companion.

Rodney Christopher is Director of Properties for the Department of Transport
