by isleofman.com 21st July 2006
A major road in Douglas was closed this morning after a fire in a guest house.

All available crews from Douglas and one from Laxey were called to Ballaquayle Road, to the Adelphi Hotel.

When crews arrived at 2 am there was reported to be ten metre high flames at the rear outlet of the laundry room.
Jets were used to stop the fire spreading but, as a precaution, the buildings on either side were evacuated.
31 people were helped out. Civil Defence volunteers helped them find alternative accommodation.
There were no casualties reported.

The cause of the fire is now being checked out.
