Manx delegation returns after successful US trip

A mission to spread the word about the Isle of Man's benefits as an international business centre has proved a success with the powers that be in the United States.

So says Chief Minister Donald Gelling (pictured), on his delegation's return from Washington DC after a hectic round of meetings with politicians and regulators.

The aim was to ensure the Island does not appear on international black-lists of unfriendly jurisdictions, and maintain its reputation as a top-flight financial centre.

Mr Gellings says the Isle of Man may be small, but is becoming increasingly well-known.

And he was pleased at the reaction of one American Senator to their presence (audio file attached):

The Isle of Man aims to become a global centre for 'e-gaming', but in the US there are demands for the prohibition of on-line gambling.

Home Affairs Minister John Shimmin raised the issue during the trip.

He says the US authorities may want to see for themselves how the Manx will regulate the industry (audio file attached):
