Controversial crossing

by isleofman.com 24th July 2006
Plans for a pedestrian crossing at Glen Darragh Road in Marown have been in the pipeline for some time.

That's according to Director of Highways, Bruce Hannay.

Suspended lollipop man Michael Hunt, has suggested the department may be acting belatedly.

He was taken to task by the authorities for helping children cross the road near Marown school - away from his designated crossing point on the A1 Peel Road.

Mr Hunt says he's surprised to see work on a crossing at that very spot.

His case is due to be reviewed by the full Whitley Council later this week and so the Department of Transport is unable to comment about his comments.

But Mr Hannay says there other reasons for the scheme being held-up.
