Road surface not to blame for S100 problems

Problems on part of the Southern 100 course this month were not caused by the road surface.

So says the Isle of Man's Director of Highways, Bruce Hannay.

One of this year's races had to be abandonned after Ian Lougher came off his machine during practice and other riders then refused to go out on the course.

As the road was only resurfaced last year it's unclear what caused the problem.

Now a team from the Department of Transport has checked the road surface with a 'grip tester' of the type used on airport runways.

Mr Hannay (pictured) says no problem has been found:
