Bumper year for shark sightings

by isleofman.com 26th July 2006
It's proving to be a bumper year for basking sharks in the seas around the Isle of Man.

Manx Basking Shark Watch says so far there have been well over 620 sightings, many of them off the west coast, in the Dalby/Peel area.

But there is concern at the small minority of people who are getting too close to the sharks while bathing.

The group's Jackie Hall says the increased awareness of basking sharks could end in an accident unless bathers follow the basking shark Code of Conduct - avoid swimming, shouting or splashing near them.
