Government led project aims to help small business.

by isleofman.com 30th July 2006
The Government through the Department of Industry has teamed up with the Douglas Development Partnership (DDP) for a scheme to support small independent retailers in Douglas town centre.

A statement says that retail specialist Martin Sewell will conduct research aimed at creating an environment in which small, independent retail businesses can flourish.

He lead a 6 month project which will gather information from all independent, locally owned retailers based in Douglas. Then five businesses will be selected which represent a cross section of the marketplace. Each will get one to one business support with the aim of creating focussed projects, “tailor made” to each individual case.

The project will run until early 2007.

The information gathered will be analysed with a view to developing a more widespread programme of support for Douglas retailers and the Isle of Man retail sector as a whole.
