A group of southern MHKs has attacked the campaign in the north for improved health facilities, telling campaigners to drop what is being termed "shallow gesture politics".
The Rushen trio of Phil Gawne, Quintin Gill and John Rimington have united to claim that Ramsey already has an enhanced service compared to the south and west.
Phil Gawne says he can understand the frustration in the north but said it was a pity "they were trying to whip up fear, playing on public anxieties".
He asks why southern tax payers should pay an additional ?10 a head so people in Ramsey could have a significantly better service.
John Rimington condemns the tactics of what he calls "irresponsible politicians" and says getting Southlands fully operational is something they would achieve through hard work and responsible debate.
