Rally success for Donnelly

by isleofman.com 5th August 2006
Rally Isle of Man has reached it's conclusion, and Eugene Donnelly has taken the overall win.

The Northern Irish Toyota Corolla driver finished 24 seconds ahead of Kenny McKinstry in his World Rally Car Subaru Impreza. Eamonn Boland was third.

It means he maintains his lead at the top of the Irish Tarmac Championship.

Eugene says he was pushed all the way (audio file attached):

But for Kenny McKinstry it was another case of nearly, but not quite (audio file attached):

Despite being third to cross the line, Mark Higgins finished in fourth, creating a 25 point lead at the top of the British Rally Championship standings (audio file atached):

Meanwhile, Shaun Fox and Voirrey Minay of Braddan finished in a brilliant 12th in their Vauxhall Corsa; Paul Curphey and Chris Heyes in their Mitsubishi Evo 8 were 17th and Port Erin's Rob Fagg on the notes for James Wozencroft of Ludlow was 18th.
Mark and Eunice Cubbon came home just a place behind in 19th, Alyn Spiers and Gina Shelley were 34th with Nigel and Michaela Cannell 39th.
Justin Dale with local co-driver, Andrew Bargery (no oil pressure), and Noel and James Kelly (blown turbo), were both retirements.
