Staff set to move into 'Wedding Cake'

After a lengthy and expensive refrubishment, staff from the Clerk of Tynwald's are moving into the Wedding Cake building.

The new Tynwald Precincts cost ?11 million and include an expanded Tynwald library, accommodation for staff and meeting rooms for select committees.

The project encountered a number of problems along the way, such as dry rot, and the discovery of further asbestos.

Robin Boyd, who was the principal architect from Ellis Brown, said one of the major challenges was trying to incorporate the four different buildings.

And he said they made some interesting discoveries, including an old safe (audio file attached):
