The member for Glenfaba has announced he will stand for re-election in November.
David Anderson has been in the House of Keys since 2001.
After just two-and-a-half years he became Education Minister, a position he says has thrown up some very difficult issues to deal with.
Most recently the closure of the Jurby School Special Needs unit has been the focus of attention in Tynwald and the media.
In a letter to his constituents, Mr Anderson says he believes when someone is elected they should accept any challenge as long as there is no conflict of interest.
He says it is easy to criticise Government Policy, but maintains it's more constructive to influence from within - a principle he says he works by.
