Bangladeshi refused asylum

by isleofman.com 8th August 2006
Appeal papers have been lodged today (Tuesday) after the Island's first ever asylum seeker had his application to live in Britain turned down.

Thirty-nine year-old Bangladeshi chef Mohammad Ahmed, who is currently at a detention centre in Doncaster, fears his life would be in danger if he returned to his native country.

He moved to the Island a year ago and was initially detained in the Island’s prison after the authorities discovered him.

He’s being represented by Island based human rights lawyer Paul Beckett who says it’s important the case is progressing.
