The British Nuclear Group has been fined ?2 million over a spill of radioactive waste at Sellafield.
Acid containing uranium and plutonium escaped from a pipe and was found in a sealed cell at Sellafield in April 2005.
BNG admitted responsibility and has been fined by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The incident led to the closure of the Thorp processing plant at the site.
BNGSL said it "deeply regretted" the incident and was committed to safety.
Thorp could reopen later this year if the company gets the go-ahead from the UK government, though the Isle of Man and Ireland have lodged objections.
