Lollipop man has contract terminated

A lollipop man, suspended from his duties outside at an Island primary school, has officially had his contract terminated by the Department of Transport.

Michael Hunt was taken to task by the authorities for helping children cross the road near Marown school - away from his designated crossing point on the A1 Peel Road.

Mr Hunt argued the greater need for a lollipop man was around the corner in Glen Darragh Road.

As planned for a number of months, work has now begun to construct a pedestrian crossing at that very spot.
