132m.p.h.?

by isleofman.com 15th August 2006
This weekend, the Mountain Course may lose it's World record tag as the fastest road race circuit.

At this year's T.T., John McGuinness smashed the lap record with a speed of 129.45m.p.h. to take the mark away from the Dundrod Circuit. At the Ulster Grand Prix two years ago, Bruce Anstey sped round at 129.03m.p.h..

According to Chief Timekeeper Richard Agnew, a rider only has to lap 0.658 seconds faster to reclaim the title. To get the magical 130m.p.h. lap at Dundrod, Anstey's record has to be bettered by 1.527 seconds.

John McGuinness is convinced 132 m.p.h. is possible this Saturday if the weather is good. The surface of the course has been resurfaced and the improved conditions, together with a line-up boasting all the top road racing stars, have led to talk of such incredible speeds.
