Johnson tribute in court

by isleofman.com 16th August 2006
The High Bailiff has paid tribute to Frank Johnson MBE, the senior member of the Manx Bar who died last week at the age of 96.

Mr Moyle said Mr Johnson, who retired 30 years ago, was until his death the oldest living member of the bar.

He was called to the bar in 1937, but Mr Moyle said it would be easy to overlook him because he was a man who never sought the limelight.

Mr Johnson was Clerk of Tynwald until the mid 1960's and also held the position of Vicar General.

Mr Moyle said Mr Johnson was a gentle man who kept a low profile.

The court stood in silence to remember him.

The most senior member of the Manx Bar is now Deemster Luft.
