It was business as usual for Laxey as they launched the defence of their Division One title with a comfortable 3-0 win at newly-promoted Braddan.
Goals from Andreas Hjerth, Ross Williamson and Wimbledon trialist Chris Brown sealed a winning start for Manx football’s dominant force.
Peel, tipped by many to push them closest this season, failed to win at home but were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with arch rivals Rushen United.
Manx football’s ‘auld firm’ clash at Douglas Road started with an eighth minute opener from Rob Cottier but new signing Aaron Hawley capitalised on a mix-up in the Peel defence to equalise.
Rushen then took the lead through midfielder Andy Baker.
Island international Nigel Shimmin levelled the scores with an excellent effort and talented substitute Callum Gallagher looked to have secured the points for Peel until new boy Hawley rescued a point with a late equaliser - his second goal of the game to cap an impressive debut.
Ayre United had a superb 3-0 victory at home to 2004 and 2005 champions St George's at Andreas.
New manager Andy Hudgeon’s side were convincing too.
James Teare, Johnny Cowley, and new signing Mark Hignett were the scorers to leave the Geordies reeling against their bogey team.
Along with the scoreline at Andreas, perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the margin of victory by Marown – who survived by the skin of their teeth last season – at last year's Division Two champions Union Mills.
After a goalless first half, Marown ran out 4-1 winners with goals from Kevin Druggan, Stephen Hinds, Kieran Love and Kevin Pulman.
It was a double disappointment for the Millers, playing their first official match at their new Garey Mooar ground and losing Island international Stephen Quine for a couple of weeks after he sustained a sprained ankle.
Their consolation was scored by Dean France.
There was excitement at St John's as St Mary's triumphed 3-2 at Mullen-e-Cloie.
All the goals came in the first half with Peter Langridge, Steven Priestnal and Frank Jones on target for the Saints.
Wes Kitching was among the St John’s scorers.
In the division's remaining game, Douglas Royal and Ramsey battled out a 0-0 draw.
